Capsella bursa-pastoris

Capsella bursa-pastoris, Shepard's Purse, (Cruciferae, the Mustard Family), 1-6 dm in height, white floral rays, habitat: a ubiquitous weed found in disturbed sites (102, 103).

It is known to produce S-Methyl-L-Cysteine (238).

Traditionally it was used for its astringent properties and to stop both external and internal bleeding and nosebleeds (6).

Recent Scientific findings have shown Shepard's Purse extracts have been used to prevent duodenal ulcer, has anti-inflammatory activity, has significant antitumor activity against several experimental tumor systems in laboratory animals (267). It has been shown to inhibit some bacteria, and has hemostatic properties (267).

Caragena arborescens, Caragana, (Fabaceae, the Bean Family), to 4 m shrub - tree, yellow floral rays, habitat: planted in tree belts (102, 103).

Caragana is known to produce Dimethylhomopterocarpin, (-)-Maackiain, (-)-Variabilin, and (+)-Pisatin (13).
